? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 11  ? Acronym : HCA-P-EcDevRuBa

This survey course is organised on the basis of nine 1.5-hour lecture/seminars. The course is designed to train students in the critical appraisal of growth typologies and long-cycle theories, in the light of empirical investigations into the evolution of the modern Russian-Soviet-Post Soviet and Balkan economies. It will examine long-term patterns of economic development in Imperial & Soviet and Post-Soviet Russia during successive long-cycles (1725-1838/42, 1838/42-1952, 1952-1995) and the Balkans (ca. 1800-1990). It is based upon a critical appraisal of available National Income estimates and explores the process of economic change under differing political regimes.
