This course consists of two parts (each 20): French Language (language work, written and oral) and French Literature (16th to 19th centuries).

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

To enable students, through the development of their grasp of the French language (written and oral), their appreciation of French culture, their critical abilities, and their independent study skills, to undertake programmes of study at francophone universities on reasonably equal terms with francophone students, and / or work on projects for Edinburgh University during their residence abroad, including preparation for dissertations to be completed in 4th year; and to prepare students for the advanced language course and intensive seminar-based content courses of French 4 Hons.

Assessment Information

2 essays (not more than 1500 words), 4 language exercises; 1.5 hour Grammar test in December; oral work. Class work 35%; degree exams 65% (1 of 2 hours and 1 of 3 hours)
