German for Non-Specialists, Level 2 (GE0019)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 7  ? Acronym : LLC-1-GE0019

This course is for post-beginners with knowledge of German at Standard Grade/GCSE level or equivalent. It is not suitable for absolute beginners or students with knowledge of German at Highers/A-level or above.
The examination will consist of a two-hour written paper.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : Successful completion of Level 1, or German at Standard Grade (SCE) or equivalent.

? Special Arrangements for Entry : The course has a quota with preference given to
1)students from the Colleges of Science and Engineering and Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and Visiting Students
2)students from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences from subject areas outwith the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures
3)students from the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures from subject areas outwith the Division of European Languages
4)all other students
All students interested in the course will have to attend the first information meeting after which the spaces will be allocated.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will further develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in German. They will further develop knowledge of basic grammatical structures and a vocabulary of approximately 1000 high-frequency words and phrases.

Assessment Information

Class work (one homework assignment, one Class Test, four vocabulary tests, oral proficiency): 50%; degree exam 50%.
