Britain at War: 1939-1945 (HI0160)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : HCA-3-BW This course (which is a one-semester version of Britain and the Second World War U01091) looks at selected aspects of Britain and the Second World War, with particular emphasis on the war in Europe. It covers such topics as the organisation of the war economy, relations between the social classes, the role of women, the Beveridge Report, the 1945 general election, the Battle of Britain, the Battle of the Atlantic, the strategic bombing offensive and Operation Market Garden. There will also be a discussion of a selection of contemporary British wartime films. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : A pass in any first level historical course and any second level historical course or equivalent. It is intended that students should obtain (a) an understanding of some of the principal areas of interest and debate relating to Britain's civilian and military experience of the Second World War (b) an insight into the range of sources from which the past is reconstructed (c) an opportunity to develop essay writing and oral skills.
