Shakespeare in Renaissance Context 1: The Histories (HI0177)

An exercise in the history of mentalities that examines the topicality of Shakespeare's History cycle for audiences c.1600.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : A pass in any first level historical course and any second level histrocial course or equivalent. Visiting students should normally have 3 to 4 History courses at grade B or above. Before enrolling students on this course, Directors are asked to contact the History Honours Admissions Secretary to ensure that a place is available (tel. 503783).

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to discuss Shakespeare's political psychology in relation to major themes of Renaissance political thought and to the European Wars of Religion.

Assessment Information

One essay of about 3000 words (one third of overall assessment); one two-hour examination paper (two-thirds of overall assessment).
