An exercise in the history of mentalities that examines the topicality of Shakespeare's History cycle for audiences c.1600.

? Pre-requisites : A pass in any first level historical course and any second level histrocial course or equivalent. Visiting students should normally have 3 to 4 History courses at grade B or above. On completion of the course, students will be able to discuss Shakespeare's political psychology in relation to major themes of Renaissance political thought and to the European Wars of Religion.

One essay of about 3000 words (one third of overall assessment); one two-hour examination paper (two-thirds of overall assessment).
