Spanish 2 (HS0007)

Consolidation of language skills acquired in Spanish 1A and 1B, as well as development of language skills through written, oral, and aural language work. The study of a range of texts (theatre, poetry, novel, short story, film) from Medieval to Modern Spain and Latin America.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : A pass in Spanish 1A or 1B.

? Special Arrangements for Entry : For visiting students wishing to enrol on this course: student has to be in Edinburgh for the full year, they can enrol with the explicit permission of the Spanish 2 course organiser and the course must be relevant to their curriculum.

? Costs : Purchase of primary and extension texts, as well as course handout.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

To consolidate and extend the language skills (written, oral, aural) acquired in Spanish 1A and 1B, with development of accurate communication. To broaden and deepen knowledge of Hispanic Culture in the areas of Medieval, Goldan Age, Modern Latin America, Modern Peninsular Studies across the full range of genres (theatre, poetry, novel, short story and film). To equip students with the linguistic competence to cope with the demands of living and either studying or working in a Spanish-speaking environment.

Assessment Information

2 essays; 2 seminar reports; 2 language exercises; 2 language tests. Class work 40%; degree exam 60%.
