This half-course will give students a historical and theoretical introduction to the study of film and cinema. It will present the development of film in Europe from its beginnings to the present, together with an introduction to the spectrum of critical reaction and aesthetic evaluation that has accompanied the medium throughout its existence.

? Pre-requisites : The course is aimed primarily at second year students of Modern European Languages but may, numbers permitting, also be open to other students. There are no formal entry requirements.
