The objective of the course is to enable students through research, teaching, discussion and writing to acquire a thorough knowledge of the theory behind and the law protecting human rights.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course students should have (1) overall awareness of the history and theory of human rights (2) detailed knowledge of the enforcement mechanisms of general public international law and of selected topics of substantive law (3) detailed knowledge of the law of the European Convention on Human Rights and its enforcement mechanisms as well as of other selected European human rights provisions and (4) familiarity with the specialised tools of research into human rights law.

Assessment Information

The course is assessed by way of two essays (40% and 60% of total marks respectively) of not more than the specified length to be submitted no later than the due date.
