Ethical, Legal and Social Issues in Child Health (NS0031)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : HEA-P-ELSICH The course is divided into three sections. The first section considers the development of child care policy and legislations. The development of child care policy. Explores the history and development of the child care policy and international conventions at UN and European Union level which advance the rights of the child. The rights of the child and parental rights explores the issue of child and parental rights as set out in UK legislation. Child protectiona dn welfare continues with consideration of the UK legislation, this time relating specifically to the issue of child protection and meeting the needs of the child. The student should be able to
appreciate and understand the legislative framework which underpins child health decisions. Discuss the rights of the child and his/her role within the health care decision making process. Discuss the ethical decision making process and identify their role within that process. Critically examine theories on the relationship between social factors and health status. Assess the impact of social and cultural influences on the health of their own client group Utilise the understanding gained to enhance the quality of care they deliver and their own professional practice.
