Family Nursing (NS0033)

In this unit we will be exploring concepts central to nursing work with families. Definitions of family will be discussed, and the experience of crisis, coping with crisis and adapting to normal transitions in family life will be examined. Assessment and interventions with families will be analysed, looking at theoretical frameworks such as systems thinking and relating such ideas to family nursing. The theory and practice of family nursing will be further examined through discussion of video sequences.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Analyse and discuss the concepts of family health and family nursing.
Consider and analyse ways in which families respond to societal changes in terms of their tructure and functioning.
Evaluate the possible effects of psychosocial transitions on family life
Critically appraise the general potential for the development of family nursing in the current health context of the U.K. or other relevant health care system, and in particular its' potential in the student's own area of expertise.

Assessment Information

One course paper of 4,000-5,000 words
