Issues and Trends in Nursing and Health Care (NS0036)

This course provides an understanding of the historical and social context for the analysis of the development ofcontemporary nursing; raises questions aout eh current status and future development in nursing; examines some of the implications for nursing of health service reform and cost containment; and, finally, explores some of the new roles and relationships which are emergent in health care.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

To give an insight into the historical and social context of nursing.
To address the complexity of health services and the aspirations of the nursing profession.
To examine the implications for the nursing profession of health service reform and cost containment.
To examine the concept of decision making within a nursing framework.
To examine future directions of knowledge development.

Two course papers of 2,500-3,000 words
