The course introduces the basic concepts in the human life cycle in order to develop an understanding of normal life events. It also presents the ethical and legal issues which underpin professional practice in health and social care. It introduces research in health care and its relationship to evidence-based practice.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Identify changes in families and discuss the influence of the family environment on child development and health.
Outline the profress of normal childhood development.
Consider the impact of a variety of theorists on how we interpret and understand aspects of childhood behaviour.
Consider the maturational tasks of adolescence.
