Supporting Families of Deaf Children (P00042)

? Credit Points : 15  ? SCQF Level : 11  ? Acronym : EDU-P-P00042

This course will focus on the types of support which can be given to families of deaf children and young people. Support includes working in partnership with parents and families and the module will examine ways in which this can be achieved. The introduction of Newborn Hearing Screening is resulting in hearing loss being detected at a much younger age, ie. before six months. It is essential that adequate support is given to the infants and families from the point of diagnosis. Families also need access to ways of encouraging early language and literacy. As well as looking at the early stages, the module will give recognition to the importance of involving parents at all stages of schooling.
