On completion of the module participants will be able to:

(a) chart the development of science education in the 5-14 curriculum in Scotland identifying the emerging key themes and issues which have shaped science education in primary and early secondary stages.

(b) demonstrate effective approaches to the teaching and learning of science based on research on how children learn and on their own reflective experiences.

(c) describe, with confidence, some of the central science ideas within the curriculum and relate the development of these ideas to a child's progression through science at school.

(d) demonstrate the ability to manage science within a whole-school curriculum plan, leading others through forward planning, ideas for good teaching and appropriate learning resources.
