Business in Contemporary China (P00202)

This course provides students with a basic understanding of the contemporary business environment and enterprise management in China. It introduces key issues underpinning each of the topics listed below, and the major social, political and economic influences on internal and external changes in the Chinese business context. It also addresses the specific features of business culture and their roots in the particular geographical location and social and economic context of individual enterprises in China.

? Co-requisites : Introduction to Chinese Society and Culture (MChS); China in the International Economy (MChS); Chinese Language I; Contemporary Chinese Politics (MChS)

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will: 1) have an overview of the key features of different stages of the changing business environment;
2) be familiar with key issues on business management in China;
3) be able to identify the major social, political and economic factors which have had a particular impact on the changing process;
4) have developed a basic framework for understanding the common features of business conduct and practices, and for exploring in more detailed topics of special interest.

Assessment Information

One 3000 word essay.
