Contemporary Chinese Literature (MChS) (P00206)

The course examines the re-emergence of literature as art and entertainment following the ending of extreme leftist cultural policies in China circa 1978.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : PGs only. Completion of MCS year one

? Co-requisites : Chinese Language II; One other option

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:
- demonstrate familiarity with and understanding of the major developments in Chinese literature since the CR, the major texts and the major authors;
- to analyse representative texts of the period in their literary, historical and social context; and
- to demonstrate an ability to tackle some of the texts and secondary literature in the original Chinese.

One 4000 word essay
