Selected Emerging Issues in Finance and Investment (P00237)

This course will cover a number of emerging issues in finance and investment. Such issues will change over time, but might include subjects such as the developing use of credit ratings ahead of the introduction of Basel II; possible paths for the development of the Chinese financial system; or study into the recovery of economies following government bond default. Further topics might include the study of certain financial markets experiencing strong rates of growth, such as the markets in credit derivatives or inflation-indexed bonds. Possible factors behind such growth, and implications for the global financial system, would also be analysed.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

The course aims to introduce students to a number of current or emerging issues in the field of finance and investment. It aims to develop in students an understanding of how these issues have emerged, their implications, and possible paths that they will take in the future. The knowledge gained will complement the student's knowledge of the fundamental theories in finance, and should provide insight into likely developments in the field of finance and investment.

Assessment Information

Students will be assessed by an individual assignment during the course (30% of total assessed score) and by examination at the end of the course (70% of total assessed score).
