To examine modern thinking about translation within the context of applied linguistics, and with particular attention to problems of textual meaning; to look at how translation theory corresponds to translation practice.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Understanding of key issues and positions within recent linguistically-informed approaches to translation; ability to discuss these issues with respect to languages the students knows, and to analyse actual translated texts within the parameters of the approaches studied.
