Muslim Transnational Communities (P00348)

The course focuses on forced and voluntary Muslim migration, and the concomitant movement of information, symbols, and commodities in transnational spaces. Special attention is given to the cultural-political dimension of transnational migration and the terms with which "identity" can be analysed and theorised.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

In addition to becoming familiar with the growing literature on Muslim migration and diasporic cultures across the world, including case material, student presentations will encourage development of organisational, analytical and presentational skills.

Assessment Information

One essay of 2,000 words.
One 2-hour examination.
