Postcolonial Writing (P00352)

A study of ethnicity and ethnic identity in writing from Africa, North America, India and the Caribbean. The course will discuss crucial issues in postcolonial theory and will analyse the new immigrant writing.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will acquire a good understanding of postcolonialism and the debates around this concept and will develop the requisite skills for assessing literature of the diaspora. They will also be enabled to come to grips with problems of cultural identity.

Assessment Information

One essay of 4,000 words.
