Jihad: Theory and Practice (P00375)

The course looks at the Qu'ranic foundations of jihad and the formulation of Islamic legal principles of jihad. Case-studies from the medieval and modern period highlight crucial differences between theory and practice and show the ongoing importance of this concept in Islam.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

A sound knowledge of the concept of jihad and its importance throughout Islamic history will be acquired, along with analytical and presentational skills.

One essay of 2,000 words
One 2-hour examination
