Professional Practice (P00380)

This core course aims to improve the professional competence of teachers through observing lessons, planning and preparing for teaching and learning, and evaluating that process. It involves consideration of classroom issues such as error correction and classroom management, and also the evaluation and design of teaching and learning materials appropriate for the participant's defined context. Micro-teaching is an integral part of the course. In addition, participants will undertake a small-scale research project based on observation data.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will have increased their understanding of the pedagogical process; gained practical experience in planning and preparing for teaching and learning, and in evaluating the teaching and learning process; gained practical experience in micro-teaching situations and reflected on their previous and current experience as well as their continuing professional development.

Assessment Information

Portfolio
All materials should be for the participant's defined context.
- One assignment based on a lesson observation (the background research on the topic, a description of the observation, and a discussion of what was observed)
- One lesson plan with rationale
- One piece of self-designed or adapted teaching material with rationale
- An overall commentary reflecting on their experience during the course.
Total number of words: 5,000-6,000.
