Teaching Practice and Exploration of Classroom Issues (P00384)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : EDU-P-TPECLLING The course aims to enhance professional teaching skills by giving participants the opportunity to apply some of their insights from their understanding of the methodology of foreign language teaching to the language classroom. Classes in the appropriate foreign language are provided for candidates to teach. Supervision, support and feedback are provided, and participants are encouraged to reflect on that experience and self-evaluate. In addition, participants will plan a small-scale action research project based on a classroom issue from their own teaching context. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : A minimum grade of 60% (i.e. a good/very good pass) in the MSc in Language Teaching Professional Practice core course, native-like competence in the target language. ? By the end of the course, participants will have had the opportunity to put their professional skills into practice in a live teaching context, received supervision and feedback on their teaching, and enhanced their critical self-evaluation skills. They will also have gained experience in planning a small-scale action research project based on a classroom issue from their own teaching context.
Assessment Information
The assessment is in two parts.
Part A. Teaching Practice Participants will be observed teaching a minimum of 6 lessons or parts of lessons. With each observed teaching slot, they must submit: - a class profile - a lesson plan - a rationale - a post-lesson critical self-evaluation Total : 3000-3500 words Part B. Research project Participants will plan a small-scale research project based on a classroom issue from their own teaching context. It should comprise: - a description of the classroom issue under investigation - a description of the method/s to be used to collect data/investigate the issue, and its/their rationale - concrete examples of questions, task sheets, instructions, etc. to be used.
