The course will explore the aesthetic and moral issues raised by the Tristan texts and by those romances of Chretien de Troyes most clearly dependent on them, investigate the problems of the texts using a mixture of close reading and general thematic study and consider the reception of the texts separately and as a multi-faceted intertextual construct in their twelfth-century context and by modern readers.
