The Politics of Performance (P00423)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : LLC-P-P00423 This course focuses on performative theories of culture and on specific performance practices. It draws on the concept of performativity as this appears in speech act theory and in recent developments in psychoanalysis, focusing on the interface between theatre as a mode of artistic production and the general notion of 'cultural performance'. Examples will be drawn from contemporary performance where these two modes overlap (interculturalism, theatre for development, psychodrama, performance art, theatre as political activism).
