Italian Cinema: Neorealism and its Modulations (P00467)

This course will initally look at the Italian Neorealism and the golden age of Italian cinema before moving to the most recent trends. Interrelations between film and other art forms such as literature, theatre and photography, and the impact of other European film developments and of television on the Italian cinema will be investigated with particular reference to affinities as well as divergences in working method and style.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Familiarity with the main historical movements and work of the major Italian directors. Ability to analyse the works in context, both thematically and stylistically.

Assessment Information

One essay of 4,000 words.
