German Cinema: Concepts and Film Style (P00468)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : LLC-P-P00468 This course examines the development of an alternative cinema culture in Germany since the early 1960s. The course focuses on characterstic features that emerged in films by Kluge, Straub, Reitz, Fassbinder, Herzog and Wenders such as the combination of documentary and fictional elements, stylized acting, the use of multiple layers of sound, unconventional cutting and particular modes of montage. The study of films will be undertaken with a view to establishing the function of such "non-classical" techniques of film-making for cinema in general and for the pursuit of the artistic and thematic aims of new German films in particular. A discussion of various concepts like "Autorenkino" and "Montagefilm" will accompany the study of the films.
