British and Irish Cinema: Film Style and the Cinematic City (P00471)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : LLC-P-P00471 The course is designed to look at key developments in British cinema since 1945. Filmmakers whose work will be discussed are from among the following: Michael Powell, Carol Reed, Alexander Mackendrick, Joseph Losey, Donald Cammell and Nicholas Roeg, Tony Richardson, Bill Douglas, Ken Loach, Peter Greenaway, Neil Jordan and Derek Jarman. Among key topics to be discussed are film reflexivity and the cinematic city. Significant changes in organisation and technologies of the British film industry will be examined, with special emphasis on the revitalisation of 1980s cinema and the growing role of television in film funding and production.
