Elementary Greek (PG) 2 (P00491)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : HCA-P-P00491 Consolidation of work in Greek accidence and grammar from Elementary Greek (PG) 1, together with systematic treatment of the syntax of the complex sentence. A thorough grounding is provided in the syntax of subordinate clauses and of indirect speech. Postgraduates also have a weekly class to read selected texts, classical and/or medieval as appropriate. By the end of the course students should:-
- have consolidated their grasp of the accidence of the Greek language and acquired a basic working vocabulary; - have an understanding of the syntax of the Greek sentence, simple and complex; - be able to translate narrative Greek prose with the help of a dictionary; - be able to apply their linguistic training to reading other kinds of writing (e.g. epic poetry). Assessment is by an end of semester class test on passages read during the semester (translation and questions on points of language).
