Supporting the Education of Learners described as having Moderate Learning Difficulties (P00538)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 11  ? Acronym : EDU-P-P00538

Students and pupils described as having moderate learning difficulties make up about 40% of the population of those currently placed in segregated provision, but are also found increasingly in mainstream schools and in the post-school sector. They may or may not have a Record of Needs (or, post-2004, a Co-ordinated Support Plan), depending on the co-existence of other difficulties and on local assessment and recording practices. They are perceived as having greater difficulty in learning across the curriculum than their peers. A disproportionate number come from socio-economically disadvantaged families. The educational challenge is to provide meaningful and rewarding learning experiences to motivate and build their confidence as learners and as effective members of society.
