This is a postgraduate course and the core module for Theological Ethics with special reference to the Media programme. The aim of this course is to develop skills for the critical evaluation of different media from a range of theological perspectives.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course participants should be able to
Evaluate particular media from different theological perspectives.
Articulate the key theological approaches to specific media and media literacy, and demonstrate critical awareness of key texts in this field.
Know how to evaluate, to analyse and to deconstruct audio-visual texts theologically.
Demonstrate an understanding of some of the distinctive theological resources and narratives available to media practitioners, audiences, Christian communicators and ethicists.
Relate their practical experience and consumption of particular media to the theoretical discussions centred on media and theology.
Have built the foundations for further postgraduate research and writing in subjects related to media literacy and theology.

Assessment Information

A 3000 word essay analysing specific aspect of theological significance related to the media and topics covered in the course. Plus at least one presentation per term.
