Specific Learning Difficulties: Dyspraxia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Specific Language Impairm (P00561)

This module is designed to examine issues relating to the specific learning difficulties of Dyspraxia, ADHD and SLI. It is important that professionals are aware of the nature of the difficulties experienced by learners with such specific difficulties. It is also necessary for professionals to be able to identify such difficulties and to play a part in the assessment process. Consideration must also be given to appropriate teaching and learning approaches to facilitate access to the curriculum. The main aim of this module is to broaden awareness of perspectives and approaches thus enabling teachers to be more effective at class and subject level in working with children, parents and other professionals.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module course members will
(i) be familiar with recent research in the area of specific learning difficulties;
(ii) have an appreciation of the nature of Dyspraxia, ADHD and SLI;
(iii) be able to identify learners with these specific difficulties and have a critical awareness of the range of assessment procedures which may be used;
(iv) be familiar with specific teaching and learning approaches which can facilitate access to the curriculum.
