This module is a post-experience course aimed at teachers and other professional workers in education who wish to study the applications and implications of new technology. It forms part of the Modular Masters Scheme of courses offered by the School of Education. This module is optional for the MEd, Diploma and Certificate in Information Technology and Education.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

After completing this module course members should be able to:

(1) describe a variety of Information Mapping techniques;
(2) operate computer software that supports such techniques;
(3) explain how information maps can support forms of assessment, including through the use of intelligent technology;
(4) develop applications of Information Mapping that can enhance teaching and learning within relevant professional contexts;
(5) discuss selected research literature in the field of Information Mapping;
(5) offer critical advice to colleagues on the appropriate application of relevant technology.

Assessment Information

The module is assessed on an A-F scale using a combination of essays and practical tasks.
Course members will demonstrate their ability to use, apply and evaluate selected theories and techniques encountered in the module. Each participant will undertake an assignment equivalent to 5000 words to include:
- developing a professionally relevant application of Information Mapping;
- writing a report of 3000-4000 words which critically analyses the development and demonstrates knowledge of appropriate research literature;
- preparing a set of slides or other presentation materials suitable for communicating the main aspects of the development to professional colleagues.
