Dissertation Design (MSc by Research in History, Arts Division) (P00626)

Students will write an assignment of 3,000 words presenting in outline the thesis of their dissertation and the arguments by which they intend to sustain this thesis. They will allude to the most important secondary sources as well as the primary sources which they intend to utilise for this purpose.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will acquire:
- A specialised knowledge and understanding of their chosen area of history;
- An understanding of the interaction between historical sources and explanation;
- The ability to formulate a plan of research;
- The ability to formulate and test hypotheses.

Assessment Information

Assessed within the context of the three essays required under the Mode C of the MSc by Research in History (Arts division).
