Reading Course in English Language Research (P00787)

This is a research training course, where students acquire skills in research preparation and also in reading and evaluating the relevant research literature, which consists of a presentation and discussion of the comtemporary research literature (primarily journal) in English Language. There is a sequence of ten sessions on research preparation and on issues in English Language research.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will acquire a knowledge of the current research issues in English Language, an understanding of how a research question is framed and addressed, and the critical ability to evaluate published original research. Students will also acquire the skills needed to propose and develop a research project, culminating in a detailed dissertation proposal.
