Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students will
- have a basic grasp of the development of discourse and text analysis in linguistics - have developed an understanding of relevant approaches to the analysis of written text - have come to an understanding of the status of sentence and paragraph, and of the role of punctuation, in written text - have an understanding of (i)the anlysis of cohesion and coherence, (ii) the problematic nature of the latter, and (iii) its key significance - have focussed on the linguistic characteristics of factual/expository text Assessment Information
Formative/Summative - one extended piece of written work (c. 2,500 words), involving analysis of a eice or pieces of written factual/expository text, submitted at the end of the course.
