Hebrew and Aramaic Texts from Qumran (P00951)

This is a language-based course that will allow students the opportunity to study in detail selected Hebrew and Aramaic texts of the Dead Sea Scrolls (e.g. the Rule of the Community, Habakkuk Pesher, Genesis Apocryphon).

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

1. To introduce students to the perculiarities of Qumran Hebrew and Aramaic by the study of their grammar.
2. To equip students with the necessary tools for and the experience of reading unpointed Hebrew and Aramaic Texts.
3. To introduce students to Qumran palaeography and the techniques of reconstructing fragmentary ancient manuscripts.

Assessment Information

40% Course participation and reading for class
60% Final course essay
