Management Development 3: Methods for Business Research (P00998)

The course aims to introduce students to a range of research and research methods in management and an opportunity to apply and implement various methodological techniques will be provided. The course seeks to develop an appreciation of the relationship between research in management and other management functions in an organisation. Transferable skills will be developed and offers a preparatory foundation for the completion of dissertations and other research related projects in the programme

? Additional Class Information : e-course with: 6hrs streamed lectures; 4hrs Question & Answer sessions; 20hrs moderated tutorials/discussions; 15hrs structured activities; 15hrs multi media instruction; and 40hrs individual study, including assignments

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course the students should be able to:
- display an understanding of prevailing methods in management research
- understand what types of research to conduct in different situations
- be able to independently conduct research and develop and implement a research designs
- display transferable skills in the techniques presented
- display the skills and confidence needed for project and dissertation design

Assessment Information

The course will be assessed through an individual project (interview and data analysis), including an electronic log of progress, accounting for 40%, a group project (survey and data analysis), including an electronic log of progress, accounting for 40% and an individual preliminary dissertation proposal, accounting for 20%
