Implementation (P01002)

The course aims to introduce students to the nature and range of technologies and innovations currently bringing about change in organisations and to development their understanding of the technical and managerial issues involved in their implementation. Moreover, an appreciation of the resources (from theories to agencies) available for analysing and managing technology is provided. Finally, practical experience in presenting or analysing a change programme is incorporated by means of an extended real life based project

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : Normally participation in Management Development 1: Personal Effectiveness and Learning Technology

? Costs : Most costs are included in the programme fee, though some communication costs will be borne by the students

? Additional Class Information : e-course with 6hrs streamed lectures; 4hrs Question & Answer sessions; 18hrs moderated tutorials/ discussions; 16hrs structured activities; 16hrs multi media instruction; and 40hrs individual study, including assignments

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course the students should be able to:
- identify the salient factors affecting the broad but subtle set of factors affecting implementation
- display an understanding of a range of techniques such as project management, design of work, strategic analysis and how these can be used for effective implementation
- demonstrate that they can apply a range of theoretical frameworks to analyse practical situations in order to overcome problems of change
- be able to present in both verbal and written form the results of their analysis and recommendations for realistic planning of implementation
- identify relevant sources of help and advice both within and outside the implementing organisation such as government, suppliers, and users

Assessment Information

The course will be assessed through one group assignment accounting for (25%), one individual briefing paper (25%), and one individual project, including an electronic log of progress (50%). In addition, other student assignments will be required but not counted towards the final assessment
