Management of Innovation (P01003)

The course aims to present and critically assess key aspects of and techniques relevant to Innovation Management in today's environment. Students will be provided with methods of thinking in order to be able to grasp the process of innovation, and offered ways of tackling innovation and understanding of the nature of the processes that they can implement generically at work, or as innovators

? Pre-requisites : Normally participation in Management Development 1: Personal Effectiveness and Learning Technology

? Costs : Most costs are included in the programme fee, though some communication costs will be borne by the students

? Additional Class Information : e-course with 8hrs streamed lectures, 4hrs Question & Answer sessions, 18hrs moderated tutorials/discussions, 16hrs structured activities, 14hrs multi media instruction; and 40hrs individual study, including assignments

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course the students should be able to:
- display an understanding of theories, methods, and information sources for analysing and managing innovation in dynamic industries
- to comment intelligently on the economic significance and general nature and variety of product innovation
- to combine and analyse critically empirical evidence and relevant conceptual material on the innovation process in technology-based industries
- to address the complexities of specific practical problems surrounding the management of innovation, such as issues in management of design, technology and technology transfer, and technological collaboration
- to debate related issues of public and private policy

Assessment Information

The course will be assessed through one individual assignment accounting for (40%), one individual briefing paper (20%), and one group project, including an electronic log of progress (40%). In addition, other student assignments will be required but not counted towards the final assessment
