Operations Management (P01020)

This course provides an integrated and coherent introduction to Operations Management. It present and critically assesses fundamental topics in the subject, providing students with practical experience of a number of techniques such as performance measurement, MRP and JIT, Supply Chain Management, Total Quality Management, and Continuous Improvement. Finally, it develops an appreciation of the relationship between Operations Management and other functional disciplines

? Costs : Most costs are included in the programme fee, though some communication costs will be borne by the students

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Summary of Intended Learning OutcomesUpon completion of the course the students should be able to:
- analyse an operation as a network of transformation processes, inputs and outputs;
- identify the operations decisions involved in the management of a process;
- display an understanding of a range of techniques and their applicability
- demonstrate that they can apply and adapt these techniques to a particular situation, suggesting possible operational improvement; and
- demonstrate an understanding of the links between Operations Management and other functional management disciplines

Assessment Information

The course will be assessed through two group work assignments each accounting for 25% of the total mark and one individual project, including an electronic log of progress accounting for 50% of the total mark.
