Acronym : HCA-P-DIOC This course considers aspects of constitutional and social history in a key period of Classcial Antiquity after the chaotic decades of the Third Century and before the official patronage of Christianity. The course will be conducted through guided reading and seminars. Students will acquire a detailed knowledge and understanding of Roman history from the late third century CE to the rise of Constantine, and the various methododlogies used by historians to examine political, social, economic and religious questions.
Students will further skills in collecting and synthesising evidence from primary and secondary sources; comparing different sets of evidence to reach conclusions, using ancient and modern comparators; evaluating and criticising the work of historians in the field; formulating questions to illuminate the subject; structuring argument to address such questions Assessment Information
