The Life and Works of Adomnan of Iona (P01231)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : HCA-P-P01231 This supervised reading course has as its focus the works of Adomnan mac Ronain (d. 704): his "De Locis Sanctis", his "Lex Innocentium", and his "Vita Sancti Columbae". Its particular emphasis is upon understanding the achievement represented by these works against the backdrop of Adomnan's scholarship, life and times. The principal objective of the course is to provide students with specialist knowledge and understanding of the scholarly and other achievements of Adomnan. Particular aims are to subject received assumptions and scholarly models to critical scrutiny, and to maximise student handling of Adomnan's works (read in translation).
Students will emerge from the course having developed a sufficient degree of expertise in the subject to undertake a Masters dissertation. Assessment Information
Students will be required to submit one individual essay of no less than 2500 words, and no more than 3500 words, to be handed in on the last Monday of the semester in which the course is run. The essay mark will count as 100% of the final grade.
