Contemporary African Issues and Debates (P01506)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : SPS-P-P01506 This course aims to build on 'African Studies: theoretical and conceptual underpinnings' by asking students to use conceptual debates to inform their analysis of contemporary debates and issues. This course will be seminar-led, the students will be expected to form arguments around a series of ten questions regarding contemporary Africa. These questions will focus on issues such as 'can biotechnology solve Africa's food insecurity?' or 'does international peacekeeping have a place in contemporary Africa?' By the end of the course, students should be able to:
1. Draw upon, distil and synthesise using a variety of source materials to construct academic arguments 2. Identify and utilise appropriate theories and concepts in order to assess given historical, contemporary and policy debates surrounding Africa and African Studies Particular skills developed will include: 1. Undertaking and presenting scholarly work 2. Participating in group discussion 3. Making appropriate use of library and IT resources 4.
