Claudian (P01537)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : HCA-P-Claudian The course focuses on the Latin poet, Claudian of Alexandria, whose brief but brilliant career in Italy lasted from AD 395 to 404. Claudian's linguistic command, learning and allusiveness are illustrated in many excellent commentaries; however, the fact that he was a hired pen, most of whose works are considered political propaganda on behalf of Stilico, means that historical and textual rather than literary concerns have tended to dominate the secondary literature.
