Dissertation (TESOL) (P01553)? Credit Points : 60 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : EDU-P-P01553 The Dissertation is a major study demanding of the course member a high level of individual application and commitment to research and enquiry. It provides the course member with the opportunity to identify, reflect on and explore a topic that has implications for his/her own professional development. The Dissertation will involve a critical interrogation of the relationship between professional practice, academic theory and the design, ethics and interpretation of research. Research training is an important part of the Dissertation process and this will be offered either as an integral part of the Dissertation course (Research Methods P00056) or via discrete research courses (eg. Research Process P00381). Guidance for students on which of these options they should pursue will be provided in the appropriate programme booklet. Before beginning the dissertation, students should submit a detailed dissertation proposal (approx. 1-2000 words). If the proposal is satisfactory, the student may begin work on the dissertation with guidance and support from the designated supervisor.
