Re-theorising Community (P01559)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 11  ? Acronym : EDU-P-RETHC

This course is built around the hypothesis that 'community' may be understood as an intermediate, or 'meso' level of social reality at which the dialectical relationship between structure and agency is, collectively, confronted in people's lived experience. The implications of this argument are examined with particular reference to current debates in social and cultural theory, the contemporary policy context, the process of globalisation, and the politics of citizenship and democracy. Particular attention is paid to the importance of the major social divisions of power in terms of class, gender and race.
