This course has been designed to provide practical instruction in topics related to scholarly methods, as well as to provide a workshop in which students will collaborate to solve bibliographical problems. Students and staff will meet to generate, present, and critique preliminary drafts of the students dissertation proposal, as well as present and discuss verbal presentations of their ongoing research. The sessions will cover a variety of research skills and methods including:
- Using the Access database
- Using PowerPoint as a presentation tool
- Introduction to the AHRC grant procedures; how to apply, what to expect.
- Preparing a conference paper;
- Methodology and researching online
- Using EndNote as a bibliographical and composition tool
- Stylistic and methodological introduction to the Dissertation Proposal,including instructions on researching and preparing the annotated bibliography.
- Local e-database holdings, introduction to EUL Inter-Library Loans, evaluating online materials
