Organology of Wind and Percussion Instruments (P01866)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : ACE-P-P01866 This course will provide an introduction to historical and contemporary issues in the organology of wind and percussion instruments, using the resources of the Edinburgh University Collection of Historic Musical Instruments (EUCHMI). Aspects studied will include the design, manufacture, playing techniques, repertoire and the social position and background of the instrument makers and customers. The organological literature, iconographic sources and surviving historical musical instruments will be studied and evaluated. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will have become familiar with the design, manufacture, playing techniques and repertoire oppropriate to the various types of wind and percussion instruments. They will have been introduced to a selection of instruments in the Edinburgh University Collection, and will have gained an understanding of their design and historical importance.
