Traditional Music in the Gàidhealtachd (P01933)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : LLC-P-P01933 The Module will introduce students to the academic discipline of ethnomusicology and explore Highland and other Scottish music, generic and individual idioms and performance practices, both historical and contemporary, making particular use of recorded examples from the archival collection. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : Students undertaking this course are normally expected to have basic aural skills and at least some knowledge of musical notation. The Module aims to introduce students to the vitality of Highland traditional musical culture in its regional, national and international context, an understanding of ethnomusicology, and first-hand acquaintance with major collections and other resources, including the School of Scottish Studies Sound Archive.
Assessment Information
An essay of 2000-3000 words, counting as 100% of the final course mark.
